Inspiration

Let's face it. We've always been at a point in life where we needed it to convert one format to another. Maybe an online application only accepted .jpeg image format, and you had a .webp file.

For us techies, it might not seem like a big deal. Maybe it's just a google search away on the required commandline options for ffmpeg. But when you switch to Windows, disaster strikes again. There's no good universal, open-source, GUI file converter that you can use. And you certainly don't want to upload your precious data to some random converter site.

That's why we decided to make a cross-platform electron app that serves as a beautiful GUI frontend for the ffmpeg and sharp libraries.

What King converter is about

King converter aims to be the one stop app that can convert one format to another, whether it be an image, audio or video. The app is mainly aimed towards less tech-savvy folks which is why we plan to keep the interface as simple as possible.

Our project motto: Whatever the format, King converter can handle that.

Contributors

I'd like to contribute!

Great to hear, FOSS is all about the community coming around to make great things. Here're a few things you could help out with

  • Front-end (HTML/CSS): You have a knack for getting things look good? Slick animations maybe? Great, you're in high demand.
  • Backend (NodeJS/Electron): What's the front-end without the back-end? We'll be working out the gears of the app.
  • Design (UI/UX): Single-handedly the most-important part. No one's going to use the app if it's going to have bad UX. Also, a cool icon/logo will definitely go a long way.
