EchoM - Voice-Based Grocery Shopping for the Visually Impaired

Project Overview

EchoM is an open-source, voice-enabled e-commerce platform designed to empower visually impaired individuals by enabling them to order groceries independently using voice commands. Unlike traditional shopping platforms, EchoM eliminates the need for visual navigation and instead provides a fully interactive voice assistant that helps users browse groceries, add items to their cart, and confirm their orders seamlessly.

Key Features

  • Voice-Based Navigation: Users interact with a voice assistant to order groceries.

  • Accessible Product Catalog: Products are listed with audio descriptions to enhance usability.

  • Seamless Checkout Process: Users confirm orders through voice commands.

  • Admin Panel: Allows administrators to add, remove, and manage products and control user orders.

  • Integrated Payment Gateway: Stripe integration for seamless transactions (currently available for normal users).

Objective

The primary goal of EchoM is to enhance accessibility in online grocery shopping, allowing visually impaired users to shop independently without relying on assistance.

Tech Stack

  • Frontend: React.js (for UI & voice command handling)

  • Backend: Node.js, Express.js (for API & database management)

  • Database: MongoDB (for storing product & order details)

  • Voice Processing: Web Speech API (for voice recognition & command execution)

  • Payment Integration: Stripe (for handling payments)

Future Enhancements

  • AI-powered personalized grocery recommendations

  • Multi-language voice support

  • Integration with smart home devices for hands-free shopping
