Open Source Monitoring in Action: Zabbix, LibreNMS & ClickHouse

Approved
Session Description

To avoid expensive downtime, reliable infrastructure monitoring is crucial, but many businesses continue to use commercial tools that are expensive, have restrictive licenses, and lock in to a single vendor. The goal of this talk is to increase awareness of open source monitoring tools as strong, adaptable, and affordable substitutes that provide enterprise-level functionality without the drawbacks of proprietary solutions.

I will introduce three leading open source tools: Zabbix for comprehensive infrastructure monitoring, LibreNMS for network device tracking, and ClickHouse for high-performance analytics on monitoring data. I will explain the core architecture and strengths of each tool, showing how Zabbix enables full-stack monitoring with advanced alerting, how LibreNMS supports automated device discovery and SNMP-based monitoring, and how ClickHouse powers real-time analytics on large volumes of monitoring data.

The session will also include practical guidance on when to choose each tool, how they can be used together in hybrid monitoring environments, and examples of real-world organizations that have successfully migrated from commercial solutions. These tools typically reduce monitoring costs by 80 to 95 percent and offer benefits such as greater customization, stronger community support, and long-term sustainability.

This session will give you practical ways to start investigating and implementing open source monitoring tools in your environment, regardless of whether you're thinking about replacing an old proprietary system or beginning from scratch.

Just a B.Tech student with a knack for building secure, scalable, and high-performance infrastructure. I design and deploy resilient network architectures, automate complex operational workflows, and integrate open-source tools into production environments. My experience spans network design, virtualization, container orchestration, backup automation, system monitoring, and multi-link connectivity optimization for both performance and fault tolerance. I’ve worked across diverse environments—configuring advanced routing and firewall policies, deploying high-availability clusters, and optimizing storage systems for redundancy and speed. Adept at combining technical depth with practical problem-solving, I ensure reliability through structured testing, performance benchmarking, and thorough documentation. Passionate about privacy-first solutions and open-source technologies, I actively share knowledge through technical talks, workshops, and community contributions.

Looks good to me. I liked the detailed CFP, although I wish the speaker had attached their own material in the references.
