AI/ML through FOSS: Using FOSS as a catalyst for the AI revolution

Approved

This session will focus on the significance and advantages of using free and open source software and tools to implement AI and ML based tools and models. I will be focusing on some FOSS tools and libraries such as LangChain and OSS large language models such as llama. I will be explaining the basics of implementing a RAG pipeline using only FOSS tools and models. In the end I will provide context about what open data is and why it is important to use open data in AI and ML instead of using proprietary and copyrighted data. I will also be providing some FOSS alternatives to popular proprietary AI tools and I will be exploring various sources through which we can obtain open data.

This proposal covers a lot of ground - the basics of implementing a RAG pipeline itself is a session and how libraries like LangChain can be used is another. Open Data/copyrighted data re: model training is another entire session in it's own right so it will be a tough job to cram so much content into a short meetup talk. There is a lot to unpack in this proposal so at the very least, the author will hopefully be able to cover the basics of all the different topics mentioned in the proposal.
