About
Pratham Books’ StoryWeaver was launched in 2015 as an open-source, open-license digital platform to put a book in every child’s hand, in a language they understand. In ten years, it has grown into one of the world’s largest multilingual libraries for children, with over 72000 stories in 399 ( as of sept 2026 ) languages, reaching millions of readers globally.
Recognised as a Digital Public Good in 2022, StoryWeaver embodies the FOSS ethos—built on open technologies, powered by open licensing, and sustained by community contributions. Organisations like Room to Read in Indonesia use a white-label version of StoryWeaver to serve the children they work with, and this practice is being replicated in other countries.
We do only intentional code releases at identified milestones. The platform continues to be actively developed by Pratham Books and new code will be released as soon as it passes internal QA processes. Code link : Github under OSI-approved MIT license.
We involve community to create new prototypes through volunteers which get productized and gets integrated into the platform. Till date several such projectes are undertaken to completion. In 2026, we accomplished 3 such projects -
