About
About Me
I am Gautam Kumar Maurya (GKM), a B.Tech Computer Science and Engineering (Data Science) student at United Institute of Technology, Prayagraj, with a strong interest in Open Source, Software Engineering, Data Science, Developer Communities, and AI.
My primary goal is to learn by building, contributing, collaborating, and solving real-world engineering problems rather than limiting myself to classroom-based learning.
Open Source & FOSS
I am actively exploring and contributing to the Free and Open Source Software ecosystem, with a particular interest in understanding how large-scale open-source projects are developed and maintained through community collaboration.
My open-source journey has introduced me to practical development workflows involving:
Git & Git-based development workflows
Gerrit Code Review
Phabricator
Issue-based development
Code review and collaborative contribution
Patch submission and review workflows
Repository branching and contribution practices
Community-driven software development
I have also been contributing to the Wikimedia ecosystem, working with repositories and contribution workflows and learning how contributors collaborate with maintainers and communities on large-scale open-source projects.
I use the username gkm563 across my open-source contribution activities.
I believe that open source is not only about writing code; it is about understanding existing systems, communicating with contributors, reviewing changes, documenting work, and continuously improving software together.
Technical Interests
My current technical interests include:
Area | Interests |
|---|---|
Programming | C++, Python, JavaScript |
Data Science | Data Analysis, EDA, Data Visualization, Machine Learning |
Software Development | Full-Stack Web Development, APIs, Backend Systems |
Computer Science | Data Structures & Algorithms, DBMS, Operating Systems |
Open Source | Git, Gerrit, Phabricator, Wikimedia, Collaborative Development |
AI | Generative AI, Prompt Engineering, AI Applications, Agentic AI |
Development Tools | GitHub, GitLab, Gerrit, VS Code, Linux-based workflows |
Databases | MySQL and relational database systems |
Web Technologies | HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, PHP |
Backend | PHP, Flask, REST APIs |
Community | Developer Communities, Hackathons, Technical Events |
I am currently strengthening my Data Structures and Algorithms fundamentals while simultaneously developing practical software projects and learning modern development workflows.
Building Real-World Projects
I enjoy turning ideas into working products.
One of my major projects is Prayagraj Rooms, a hyperlocal room-rental platform designed to help students find rooms and directly connect with property owners without unnecessary broker involvement.
As the Co-Founder & CTO, I have worked on the product architecture, development, backend systems, administration features, database design, security considerations, and deployment.
The project has given me practical exposure to:
Product development
Frontend development
Backend architecture
PHP & MySQL
REST APIs
Authentication and security
Admin dashboards
Database design
Deployment and hosting
SEO and production-oriented development
I am also interested in building technology products around mobility, education, AI, developer tools, and community platforms.
Developer & Community Leadership
Beyond individual development, I actively participate in developer and student communities.
I currently serve as Vice President of the GeeksforGeeks Student Chapter at United Institute of Technology, where I contribute to technical community activities, student engagement, workshops, hackathons, and developer initiatives.
I have also been involved in organizing and coordinating technical activities at the college level, including hackathons, developer events, recruitment activities, and technical communities.
I strongly believe that a good developer community should help people:
Learn → Build → Contribute → Collaborate → Share
Learning Through Communities
My learning approach is strongly based on practical implementation.
Instead of only completing courses, I try to apply what I learn through:
Learning → Building Projects → Contributing to Open Source → Participating in Hackathons → Collaborating with Developers → Sharing Knowledge
This approach has helped me understand that software engineering is much broader than programming alone.
It involves problem solving, documentation, communication, version control, testing, code review, architecture, collaboration, and continuous learning.
What I Am Looking For
I am interested in connecting with:
Open-source contributors
Project maintainers
Software developers
FOSS communities
Developer communities
Students interested in open source
Organizations building open-source technology
I am particularly interested in contributing to projects where I can gradually move from small fixes and documentation toward meaningful feature development, code review, maintenance, and long-term project contribution.
I am always open to learning from experienced contributors and collaborating on projects that create real value.
Beyond Code
I believe that engineering is not just about writing code.
It is about understanding why a system exists, how it works, who uses it, what problems it solves, and how it can be improved.
My long-term objective is to become a strong software engineer and open-source contributor who can build reliable systems while also contributing to the communities and projects that make technology accessible to everyone.
Current Focus
