Quantum Metro Secure Network using QKD

A city-wide QKD network that can provide quantum-safe keys for banking, data centers, and 5G communications

Description

The project outlines a next-generation quantum-safe metro network security architecture that is intended for the secure protection of critical urban infrastructure such as data centers, banking services, government services, and 5G backhaul services. The architecture is based on the deployment of Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) over existing metro fiber to continuously generate secure encryption keys through the application of the laws of physics.

The QKD technique allows for the immediate detection of any eavesdropping attempts, thereby providing unconditional security against both classical and potential quantum computer hacking attempts. The generated secure keys can then be used in conjunction with robust symmetric cryptography such as AES to secure the transmission of data in real-time.

The proposed architecture is also scalable to support the deployment of trusted node mesh, which is essential for smart city infrastructure, and forms the basis for the next-generation quantum internet.
