OpenGig Connect – Open Source Local Service Booking Platform

A FOSS platform to discover, verify, and book local service providers by city and category.

Description

OpenGig Connect is a free and open-source web platform designed to help users discover and book verified local service providers such as electricians, plumbers, tutors, and carpenters in their city. Many smaller towns and local communities lack access to organized digital platforms for finding reliable service providers. This project aims to bridge that gap with a simple, community-adaptable FOSS solution.

The platform supports three roles: client, provider, and admin. Service providers can register and create their profiles with details such as services offered, city, and base pricing. Admin approval ensures that only verified providers are visible to users, improving trust and reliability.

Clients can select their city, choose a service category, and view a list of available verified providers along with their base prices and profile details. Clients can then send booking requests, which providers can accept or reject. After the service is completed, bookings can be marked as paid through a dummy payment flag to simulate transaction flow without integrating real payment gateways.

The project focuses on simplicity, transparency, and accessibility while avoiding reliance on proprietary APIs or closed-source services. By being fully open source, it can be deployed and customized by local communities, colleges, or organizations to support local gig workers and improve their digital visibility.
