HYPER LOCAL AGRI INTELLEGENCE

Hyper-Local Agri Intelligence (HLAI) is an open-source GeoAI platform that provides field-level precision farming insights for small-scale farmers. By fusing 100m NISAR soil moisture data and 10m Sentinel-2 crop health imagery, the tool delivers real-time, high-resolution alerts (such as irrigation triggers and crop stress) through a Telugu-first mobile interface. It aims to democratize satellite data, turning complex spatial observations into actionable village-level intelligence without subscription fees.

Description

For a formal FOSS United project description—especially for the FOSS Hack 2026 or a NMG Grant application—you need to move beyond technical specs and focus on the impact and philosophy.

FOSS United evaluates projects based on novelty, completeness, and relevance to the "Digital Commons." Below is a comprehensive description you can use.

🛰️ Project Description: Hyper-Local Agri Intelligence (HLAI)

1. The Problem

Agricultural productivity in India is often hampered by a "Resolution Gap." While satellite data is abundant, most accessible tools provide regional or district-level insights (1km to 10km grids). For a small-scale farmer with 1–2 acres of land, these insights are too coarse to be actionable. Proprietary precision-agri tools exist but are locked behind expensive subscriptions and complex English-only interfaces, creating a digital divide.

2. The Solution

Hyper-Local Agri Intelligence (HLAI) is a FOSS (Free and Open Source Software) GeoAI engine designed to provide field-level insights directly to smallholder farmers. By integrating the latest 2026 NISAR (100m) soil moisture datasets and Sentinel-2 (10m) optical imagery, the platform provides:

  • Precision Health Tracking: Automated NDVI monitoring that detects crop stress at a 10m resolution.

  • Sub-Surface Moisture Alerts: Utilizing NISAR’s L-band radar to "see" moisture levels below the canopy, enabling smarter irrigation.

  • Zero-Cost Access: A completely free, open-source stack that replaces paid proprietary APIs with a community-driven data pipeline.

3. How it Works (The FOSS Stack)

The project is built on the principle of No Vendor Lock-in:

  • Data Pipeline: Uses the Google Earth Engine (GEE) Python API and ISRO's Bhoonidhi to fetch and process multi-spectral and radar data.

  • Intelligence Layer: A custom Python-based logic engine that compares real-time field data against 3-year historical benchmarks to trigger "Stress Alerts."

  • Access Layer: A mobile-responsive Streamlit dashboard and a lightweight Telegram Bot interface, localized in Telugu to ensure no farmer is left behind due to a language barrier.

4. Impact & Vision

By open-sourcing the data processing scripts and the alert logic, HLAI transforms satellite observations from abstract pixels into village-level intelligence. In line with the FOSS United mission, this project builds a "Digital Commons" for agriculture, allowing NGOs, researchers, and local cooperatives to fork the code and adapt it for their specific regional crops and climates.
