Accessible Public Transport Support is an open-source enhancement that makes offline public transport navigation more inclusive by integrating accessibility details (like wheelchair access, ramps, elevators) using OpenStreetMap data — without requiring internet access.
Accessible Public Transport Support is an open-source initiative that focuses on improving how everyday commuters — particularly those with accessibility requirements — access public transport information without needing an internet connection. Instead of relying on online APIs or external services, the project works entirely offline, using rich data available from OpenStreetMap (OSM).
The app upgrade intelligently processes offline OSM data to show detailed public transport info such as:
All available routes (bus, metro, train, tram, ferry) that serve a stop
Whether a stop or station is wheelchair-accessible
Presence of elevators, ramps, and tactile paving where mapped
Route highlights when selected, making navigation clearer and more confident for users.
This project makes public transport navigation more inclusive, practical, and friendly, especially for people with mobility challenges or users in regions with limited connectivity. It supports the broader goal of inclusive mobility and contributes to strengthening open-source navigation tools that empower users to travel independently and confidently.
