The Internet Shutdowns Tracker is an interactive map of India designed to monitor and display instances of Internet shutdowns enforced by state governments. This project aims to increase transparency and awareness regarding Internet censorship, offering an invaluable resource for journalists, researchers, and activists. By visualizing data on a map, users can easily identify patterns, frequency, and duration of shutdowns across different states. The project utilizes a modern web stack, including Node.js, Express, MongoDB, and several JavaScript libraries like mapbox-gl-js and ractive.js, to ensure a seamless and interactive user experience. The initiative underscores the importance of maintaining open and unrestricted access to the Internet, which is crucial for upholding democratic principles and safeguarding the flow of information. The project is open source, encouraging contributions from developers to enhance its functionality and coverage.
