This request funds public numerical-computing maintenance, reference provenance, reproducible builds and contributor documentation. Xalen Ephemeris — reproducible astronomical computation
Xalen Ephemeris is an existing public Rust computation project for astronomical positions, time-scale and coordinate conversions, and cultural-calendar calculations. Source separates UTC/TAI/TT/UT1 conventions, supports analytical VSOP87 and file-backed DE440/SPK providers, includes primary-reference test designs and a seeded comparison harness with recorded backend provenance. Python, Node, WebAssembly and C binding source exists. The grant would make three numerical components and one initial binding easier for other developers to reproduce, inspect and maintain. Funded scope is the Apache-2.0 computation core with applicable BSD-3-Clause notices. The separately restricted optional catalogue and proprietary services are excluded. Existing source/test designs are not presented as independently certified accuracy, universal platform support or measured adoption.
12-month public reference and reproducibility programme
INR 15L/12 months: xalen-time, xalen-coords, xalen-ephem and one binding. Q1 baseline/licences/schema; Q2 100 provenance-checked fixtures; Q3 two-platform binding and independent reviews; Q4 readiness report and quarterly public updates. Proposed budget: 9.6L maintainer, 2.4L reviews, 2.4L docs/support, up to 0.6L uncovered CI.
