Meshery: Making the CNCF Landscape Interactive Through Infrastructure as Design

Proposal status is Rejected
Session Description

Cloud native infrastructure has become increasingly complex. Kubernetes applications, service meshes, observability stacks, gateways, and hundreds of CNCF projects are often represented as disconnected YAML files spread across repositories, making systems difficult to understand, review, and collaborate on.

In this talk, we'll explore Meshery, a CNCF project introducing the concept of "Infrastructure as Design", a visual and collaborative approach to managing cloud native infrastructure. Through Meshery's Kanvas designer, we'll see how Kubernetes resources, cloud services, and CNCF technologies can be modeled as interactive designs composed of models, components and relationships rather than isolated configuration files.

In this session, attendees will learn how to import existing infrastructure, visualize dependencies, explore architecture patterns, and gain a clearer understanding of complex cloud native systems. The session will showcase how Meshery helps transform the CNCF landscape from a collection of tools into an interactive, understandable, and collaborative experience.

Key Takeaways
  1. Understand the concept of Infrastructure as Design and how it complements Infrastructure as Code.
  2. Learn how Meshery models infrastructure using models, components, relationships, and designs.
  3. Visualize Kubernetes and CNCF architectures through interactive designs instead of navigating YAML alone.
  4. Discover how Meshery enables collaboration, sharing, versioning, and governance of cloud-native infrastructure.
  5. Gain practical insights into navigating and understanding the CNCF ecosystem at scale.
