FOSS for MVP to Enterprise application in GenAI era

Proposal status is Rejected
Session Description

Abstract

An MVP has been becoming ever more easy to create, especially due to the recent advancements in the field of Generative AI and the availability of open source software. A team of a few people can turn an idea into a working application in a matter of days using open source tools, coding assistants based on AI, large language models, and cloud native technologies. However, the real challenge comes when an MVP needs to evolve into an enterprise application.

In this session, we will discuss how Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) can be used to build applications evolving from the initial MVP to scalable and maintainable enterprise systems in the GenAI age. This session will discuss how open source tools can be used together with GenAI during each phase of this journey – from architecture, development, testing, deployment, observability, security, to operations.

Moreover, we will consider an important question whether it makes sense to use different design patterns if there is a chance that our MVP might end up becoming an enterprise product. Instead of overengineering from the start, we will discuss practical architecture decisions which will allow us to keep the MVP simple and yet will preserve

Key Takeaways
  • Be aware of the transition from MVP to Enterprise and the architectural problems that you may face along the way.

  • Find out how FOSS will help to cut costs and minimize vendor lock-in by allowing flexibility in developing the product.

  • Discover how GenAI changes the process of software development from requirements gathering to documentation, implementation, testing, and operation.

  • Obtain best practices of architecture that will allow evolving your MVP to scalable and secure enterprise app.

  • Get familiar with where GenAI is applied within application stack (LLM, agents, RAG, tools, memory, automation).

  • Analyze open source options regarding maturity, community, security, scalability, and enterprise readiness.

  • Learn how to combine human experience, FOSS, and GenAI in order to develop your app faster.

Reviews

Thanks for your submission. We decided not to move forward with this talk. Trying to tackle the entire journey from MVP to enterprise scaling alongside AI makes the session rather generic for our audience. We want talks that go deep on one specific open source problem or architecture challenge rather than broad overview presentations. Space on the schedule is very limited, so we cannot include this talk this time.
