Polishing world's best free and open ERP

Proposal status is Rejected
Session Description

ERP software is built to handle complex problems, but over time, that complexity can also make the software harder to use.

In this talk, we’ll share how we’ve been polishing ERPNext by looking beyond the UI and digging into the experience of using the product, workflows, interactions, settings, and some of the decisions that have been around for a long time. We’ll walk through real examples where a small UX issue turned out to be a much bigger product or engineering problem. We’ll also look at what it takes to simplify a mature, open-source product without taking away the flexibility that makes ERPNext useful in the first place.

Key Takeaways
  • What “polishing” software really means beyond making it look better.

  • How to spot UX problems in mature, feature heavy software.

  • How small UX issues can point to deeper product and engineering problems.

  • How we simplify workflows while keeping ERPNext flexible.

  • Why improving something that already exists can sometimes be more valuable than adding another feature.
