System for Emergency Assistance, Response, and Communication Hub (SEARCH)

Approved

System for Emergency Assistance, Response, and Communication Hub (SEARCH) has been setup at the National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal, specifically to assist areas in emergencies or disasters. It is a state-of-the-art rescue and communication centre which is designed to enhance disaster response and has been built extensively by using FOSS tools and technologies. It is equipped with UHF/VHF/HF radio stations and autonomous aerial and marine vehicles for effective emergency response. It also serves as a learning platform for students and HAM/Amateur radio enthusiasts, fostering innovation in communication and rescue operations.

This talk will showcase how FOSS has been used extensively to setup SEARCH.

Not Sure
The proposal could have been better if there were more details about what specific FOSS projects were used for the SEARCH project and what problems they solve but the proposal looks promising. Going forward, please refer to the proposal guidelines - https://forum.fossunited.org/t/talk-proposal-guidelines-for-a-foss-conference/1923 "Accepted" instead of "Not Sure" because I found the following about the project https://alumni.nitk.ac.in/uploads/donation_appeal_annexures/SEARCH_Phase_1_Donation_Endowment.pdf and https://www.thehindu.com/sci-tech/technology/nitk-surathkal-launches-new-search-facility-for-emergency-search-and-rescue-operations/article67627233.ece
