Navigating Open Source: My GSoC Contributions with AOSSIE and the Evolution of the Social Street Smart Project

This session covers my contributions to the open source community, detailing how I began exploring it, eventually leading to my GSoC selection with AOSSIE where I worked on the Social Street Smart project.

Some of the features of the extension include:

• Clickbait detection
• Hate speech detection
• Fake news detection
• Disinformation in images detection
• Web activity tracking
• Website reputation checking

My work in the previous season mainly focused on implementing the Website Reputation Checking feature, which now takes in a cumulative opinion from the users, along with the use of Generative AI, as an additional tool to help provide context to the news queried by the user.

The talk will also cover challenges I faced, where we had to migrate from AWS serverless deployment to a dockerized approach, in addition to bug fixes, and the exploration of implementing the K-Nearest-Neighbours algorithm to enhance the Disinformation in images detection capability of the extension.
