Understanding the Road to Successful Open Source Projects

Rejected

Session Description

This is a generalized session/talk/workshop discussing Open Source in various domains of programming and software development and figuring out a road for especially startups and early developers to start contributing or building their own "open-source" projects. And trying to look into what and how successful OSS projects have done and accomplished the so illusive "success".

With some discussion about pain points of the ecosystem around funding, lack of motivation and organizational inadequacies leading to worse overall projects and development experience for all the contributors and users.

I intend for the talk to be fairly open-ended and not require any prior specialized knowledge of the programming domain other than awareness of basic tools and ecosystem. And allow the audience to guide the direction as per their comfort on the subject.

This however is not a 101 session to explain everything about the OSS ecosystem, but we will dive deep into understanding various aspects of OSS and how several projects I lead, been part of, or have contributed to handle some of the common decisions that come up. Both in enterprise and pure FOSS settings.

I will update the reference links before the talk.
