Prav is a Free Software app for encrypted messages, files, and audio/video calls. The official website is https://prav.app and the source code is hosted at https://codeberg.org/prav. It is available for download from the F-Droid repository here https://f-droid.org/en/packages/app.prav.client and Google Play Store https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=app.prav.client. However, the service is under beta.
Inspired by the Quicksy app, Prav provides the convenience of registering with a phone number and providing a choice of service providers at the same time. While traditional messengers are funded in hidden ways by collecting user data, Prav app is geared towards user privacy. All the messages are end-to-end encrypted by default. This talk will emphasize why we need Prav messenger app in a world where one feels like there are too many of them.
Further, Prav is a cooperative which allows democratic decision-making structure while safeguarding the project against any hostile takeovers from corporates. The project adheres to a code of conduct to ensure inclusive participation, and its Social Contract ensures user rights are being respected.
