Rejected

Session Description

Open source is still a growing community and culture on its own but is the best way to learn almost anything. This session is a hybrid of setting up a home lab with open-source tools and exploring real-world DevOps and cybersecurity monitoring practices. Whether you're a developer, an aspiring infrastructure engineer, or someone interested in self-hosting, this talk will provide practical insights into managing your own infrastructure while gaining hands-on experience in DevOps and security.

What We'll Cover

Building a Self-Hosted Ecosystem

We'll start by exploring open-source alternatives to everyday cloud services, setting up:

  • Nextcloud – A self-hosted cloud storage solution, replacing Google Drive
  • Jellyfin – A media streaming server, replacing Netflix/Plex
  • Gitea – A lightweight Git hosting solution, replacing GitHub

From Code to Deployment

Once we have our Git hosting set up, we'll walk through the process of:

  • Developing a simple web app
  • Pushing it to Gitea
  • Deploying it to a dedicated server automatically using CI/CD pipelines

Infrastructure & Scaling

A high-level overview of infrastructure design using:

  • Proxmox for virtualization
  • Docker & Kubernetes for containerization
  • Load balancing for high availability

Security & Monitoring

Self-hosting comes with responsibility. We'll discuss:

  • Wazuh – Security monitoring and threat detection
  • Grafana & Prometheus – Observability and system monitoring

Why Attend?

  • Learn how to host and manage your own cloud, media, and development tools
  • Understand how modern infrastructure is designed and scaled
  • See live demonstrations of security and monitoring tools
  • Get hands-on insights into DevOps, cybersecurity, and self-hosting

By the end of this session, you'll have the knowledge and tools to take control of your digital infrastructure, gaining skills that are directly applicable to DevOps, system administration, and security engineering.

Not Sure
Sounds good. Self-hosting is always a welcome addition. However, not sure if this is intended to be a hands-on session or just an informational talk.

Not sure how you would fit all this into one talk. But if you can pull of a demo like this that would be great! If you have code already please link to it.

This one is approved. While reading the description, I feel it could be better suited to do a hands-on workshop on this topic.
