Co-creating Data for Districts(D4D) Platform

Rejected

Session Description

India has close to 766 Districts, these are critical sub-regional administrative units, where local and diverse development priorities can be activated. The availability of near real-time data at district and sub-district level is heavily constrained, thus limiting opportunities for administrations to have data-driven monitoring of welfare programs and curbing citizens' active participation in governance. With CivicDataLab’s Data for Districts (D4D) platform, we are working to collate, analyse and publish critical government datasets to strengthen governance and improve citizen participation.

D4D provides both administration and citizens a comprehensive view to monitor, analyse and compare performance of various welfare programs, line departments and development priorities at the district and sub-district level. Based on our field research and stakeholder engagements, we have gathered that D4D needs to be a self-deployable open-source tool that helps civil-societies, academia, district administration offices and other local organizations to publish critical data and increase their citizen participation. With D4D, we aim to break down the planning and implementation of welfare programs so that citizens can understand the profile of their district better, check welfare targets set by governments and compare performance of welfare programs at both district and sub-district level through a user-friendly web-based platform and data visualizations.

In this session, we hope to share insights of the current state of the D4D platform, hope to take community feedback to further enhance the platform and invite diverse contributions.

Looks like this has to do with open data. We need some word about open data in the conf. But because it looks more of a product/tech showcase, IMO it will go better as a lightning talk or a community table.
