When technology meets policy: A case of data protection and privacy

Session Description

I will delve into how technology policy works in various jurisdictions as part of the talk. Much of the talk will cover when, how, and where the technology meets policy. A few of the questions the lecture will answer:

  1. What are the wicked technology policy challenges? 
  2. How the nature of technologies are changing?
  3. How to visualise technology lifecycle and transition as a subject of policy inquiry?
  4. Can policy guide technology? Why State intervenes?
  5. How does policy affect technology? When does the State intervene?


I will employ two paths of specialisation within the technology policy. In terms of technology, I will talk about platform technologies, while in terms of policy, I will touch upon the nuances of data privacy and protection policy.

As a subject-matter specialist in technology policy, my work revolves around providing strategic responses by generating evidence to the diverse technology policy needs of the clients.  I focus on knowledge (read technology) production, appropriation, spillover, utilisation, and regulation. Additionally, strategising how policy intervention can enable positive, prevent negative, and optimise appropriation externalities. 


My education qualification includes two post-graduate degrees, one in Technology Policy and the other in Politics (with specialisation in International Relations) from IIT Delhi and JNU, respectively.
