Open Source Jet Engine Digital Twin platform

Screening

Session Description

My session would be about An Open Source Jet Engine Digital Twin platform with prognostic and diagnostic capabilities. One of the notable features of this open source platform is the integration of the Engine Performance Deck into its framework. The current work encompasses the development of a gas turbine simulation model & environment for a targeted class of Turbofan engines:-

  • Performance is critical to all phases of gas turbine design, development and operation.
  • The cycle performance models, representing the performance of the whole gas turbine engine in limited fidelity, are built to simulate the provided Jet nozzle schedules and control laws.
  • The mathematical equations are framed for design and off-design operating conditions to aid in the construction of the numerical models.
  • The validation of the Cycle Design Point numerical model is attempted by performing benchmark tests.
  • Additionally, a collaborative design for user interface of the simulation environment is produced.
  • Remarks on the results, inferences and future extension of the work are provided fully Open Source.

Till date we have to import jet engines from other countries, there is no single company/government organization who has developed a jet engine in India that could be used by fighter jets and missiles built in India. For example, The GTRE GTX-35VS Kaveri is an afterburning turbofan project developed by the Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE), a lab under the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) in Bengaluru, India; was shelved after many unsuccessful attempts in the past to develop an engine locally in India.

I want to make the designs required to build a jet engine Open Source so that more individuals or groups in India could take up the development of jet engines in India and in future we could stop relying on other countries for selling us jet engines.
