Session Description

FOSS4G.IN / Contributing to Open Source

I want to talk about the upcoming FOSS4G.IN which is the first of it’s kind in India. FOSS “For Geospatial” FOSS4G have been run all around the world for more than 20 years and I am trying to establish a chapter in India with a conference planned in 2027.

I also want to encourage people to contribute to the open source community with a very simple framework.
A lot of companies and individual owe their career to open source so it’s only logical to give back but how? As a user of open source, you can:
- Sponsor open source projects, events & conferences
- Attend any of the events & conferences
- or at the very least spread word about “FOSS” ,

We owe it to the open source.

Key Takeaways

Learn about the “Geospatial” community in India - FOSS4G.IN

I have worked as a developer in Open Source GIS domain in multiple startups for the past 6 years and built many
applications from scratch to production, managed teams, hired people and wore many other hats.

Now I am volunteering at OSGeo, giving back to the community that has given me access to the global stage

I am trying to kick-start the FOSS4G.IN (the India region conference) with the first planned in November 2027.
