Tangled: An open source, federated code forge

Proposal status is Approved
Session Description

We’re building Tangled (https://tangled.org), a next-generation social coding platform. Tangled is fully open source (https://next.tangled.org/core) and federated. This means you can host code on your own servers, while still being able to contribute/participate with a globally unique profile. Tangled is built on an open protocol (https://atproto.com) that allows for data ownership, extensibility and decentralization.

This talk aims to quickly outline:

  • The open protocol we’re built on top of (AT Protocol)

  • Our architecture and how it differs from traditional platforms (like GitHub)

  • A quick demo of the UI and code review flow

Key Takeaways
  • a new, open protocol for building social applications

  • thinking of code collaboration beyond GitHub

  • designing agent-scale distributed systems
