Milli's Archives Annotation Tool: Making Digital Archives More Discoverable Through Collaborative Metadata

Proposal status is Withdrawn
Session Description

Digital archives often contain vast collections of documents, images, and historical materials, but valuable context is frequently buried within annotations, comments, and metadata. Milli's Archives Annotation Tool is an open-source platform designed to make these insights easily searchable, discoverable, and reusable.

This session will showcase how the tool enables researchers, archivists, and contributors to search across annotations, add contextual notes, and build connections between related archival materials. By providing fast access to community-generated knowledge and cross-references, the platform helps users uncover relationships that might otherwise remain hidden in large digital collections.

We will explore the architecture of the tool, its search and annotation workflows, and the challenges of building collaborative archival infrastructure using open technologies. The talk will also discuss how open-source software can strengthen digital preservation efforts, improve accessibility of cultural heritage collections, and encourage community participation in archival research.

Attendees will gain insights into designing annotation systems for knowledge discovery and learn how collaborative metadata can transform the way we interact with digital archives

Key Takeaways
