Edge AI in KMP: Running Models Locally Across Platforms

Proposal status is Rejected
Session Description

Cloud APIs shouldn't gate intelligence. This session shows how to run open sourced ML models directly on-device with Kotlin Multiplatform across Android, iOS using oss tensorflow/Onxx. We'll convert models for mobile inference, load them in shared KMP modules, and process real-time camera input locally using image tensors and Top-K predictions. See how to build a complete offline pipeline from model integration to UI without cloud latency or privacy tradeoffs.

Key Takeaways

1. Convert and optimize models for on-device inference across KMP targets
2. Execute models in shared Kotlin code without platform-specific bridges
3. Process real-time inputs locally using image tensors and Top-K logic
4. Build fully offline ML pipelines with zero cloud dependency
Architect Edge AI apps using a single Kotlin toolchain end-to-end
