Session Description

I’d like to present the Telangana State MeeSeva Oracle-to-PostgreSQL migration as a factual, replicable case study to an audience spanning government IT leadership, enterprise database teams, and the global open-source community. The talk would accomplish three things:

  • For the open-source community: Contribute a significant government migration case study to the PostgreSQL and Ora2Pg ecosystem, reinforcing the viability of open-source databases at national scale.

  • For database professionals: Provide a technically honest account of the migration process, the role of Ora2Pg, what required manual effort, and what they should plan for in their own migrations.

  • For government CIOs and IT directors: Demonstrate that PostgreSQL is production-ready for large-scale, mission-critical citizen services, with real numbers, real challenges, and real cost savings.

I’ll keep it factual, technical and honest. A practitioner’s account of what happened, what went wrong, what went right, and what others can learn from it.

Key Takeaways

The talk is tool-agnostic and vendor-neutral. Whether you're migrating a government platform, a financial system, or an enterprise ERP, the patterns, dependency analysis, automated-vs-manual conversion ratios, performance regression testing, cutover planning, are the same. I'll share the decision frameworks, not just the results.
