Why Infrastructure Needs a 'Kanvas' : Making Cloud Native Systems Interactive

Proposal status is Rejected
Session Description

Cloud native infrastructure has given us incredible tools, but it has also made our systems harder to understand. As Kubernetes applications grow, we're often left navigating hundreds of lines of YAML, multiple dashboards, and dozens of CNCF projects just to answer a simple question: how does everything fit together?

In this talk, I'll share how my journey as a contributor to Meshery, a CNCF project, changed the way I think about infrastructure. We'll explore the idea of Infrastructure as Design, where infrastructure isn't just configuration stored in repositories but something that can be visualized, understood, and collaboratively designed.

Through live demonstrations, we'll see how Meshery helps turn Kubernetes resources and cloud native architectures into interactive designs, making it easier to understand relationships, dependencies, and patterns across the CNCF landscape. Whether you're new to Kubernetes or already working with cloud native technologies, you'll leave with a fresh perspective on how we can make infrastructure more approachable, collaborative, and human-friendly.

Key Takeaways
  1. Understand the concept of Infrastructure as Design and how it complements Infrastructure as Code.

  2. Learn how Meshery visualizes Kubernetes resources, relationships, and cloud-native architectures through interactive designs.

  3. Discover practical approaches to making complex cloud-native systems easier to understand, navigate, and collaborate on.

  4. Gain insights into the role of open-source projects like Meshery in shaping the future of cloud-native infrastructure.

  5. Learn how existing Kubernetes manifests and deployments can be transformed into interactive, shareable infrastructure designs.
