Sustainable K8s with opensource projects

Review Pending

This talk offers a practical playbook on leveraging cloud native technologies to cut both carbon footprint and cost—a win-win for businesses embracing sustainability. We’ll explore how containerization and Kubernetes enable greater efficiency by running more software on the same hardware. Attendees will also learn how tools like Karpenter, KEDA, kube-green, and custom schedulers can further optimize Kubernetes workloads. Finally, the session will highlight the work of communities like CNCF’s TAG Environmental Sustainability and show how these efforts can be applied in real-world cloud platforms to build a cleaner, more efficient future.

In a world where every watt counts, this talk explores how we can reduce our carbon footprint while embracing the power of cloud native technologies. Framed through a nostalgic and engaging analogy of Captain Planet and the Planeteers, each tool becomes a Planeteer, united by Kubernetes—the Captain Planet of our platforms—working together for the health of our digital and physical worlds. This session shines a light on the inspiring efforts of communities like CNCF’s TAG Environmental Sustainability, making their vital work accessible to a wider audience. Attendees will walk away with practical insights on how to adopt sustainability practices pioneered by leading cloud providers, empowering them to build not just efficient systems—but a greener, more hopeful future for all.

Not Sure

Interesting take and not something we usually come across. The proposal gets stronger if the speaker is a contributor/maintainer of mentioned projects.

I can't comment on the technical parts of the proposal since I'm not familiar with the k8s ecosystem.

Not Sure

Doesn't have a detailed outline of the talk.

Rejected

This is an important topic to discuss. But it doesn't seem like the speaker has anything specific to cover or application of the cost/energy saving practices in k8s.
