Imagine you are making a 3D scene and you want to add a lawn. But not just a green patch; you want it to look real, with tiny blades of grass that move in the wind when you zoom in. Now, modeling every single blade by hand would take forever, right?
That’s where Geometry Nodes come in.
Geometry Nodes is a tool in Blender that lets you use blocks (called nodes) to build stuff like grass, trees, rocks, and more - without doing everything one by one. You just set up a flow of nodes, and Blender takes care of the rest. It’s wondrous.
In this talk, I will show how Geometry Nodes work, go through a few examples (not a lawn though ;) ), and even do some parts live. Don’t worry if you’ve never used them before I will keep it beginner-friendly, although some prior knowledge of Blender would be really useful.
I have added a link to the Geometry Nodes documentation if you want to explore more.
This will be my first full talk on this topic, but I have given a lightning talk about my Blender journey at the FOSSUnited Bengaluru Meetup in May 2025. The video link for that is in the references too.
By the end of this talk, you will have a solid understanding of what Geometry Nodes are and how they work inside Blender. You will see them in action as part of a real project, and hopefully walk away inspired to try them out in your own scenes. Whether you are building grass, rocks, or something totally wild, this feature can seriously level up your Blender skills.
Note: This talk assumes you’re already a bit familiar with the basics of Blender.
A session on usage of cross-disciplinary FOSS project, unsure if can get the right audience but it is good start introducing such tools and expanding opportunities to contribute to the larger movement.
I'm attending this talk if it makes through! Good introduction to Blender, FOSS projects in animations/media as well
This would be interesting talk and good intro to Blender
Well written proposal. Definitely somewhat niche but I'm sure it will find its audience, and I don't mind if this jumps over some people's heads. The proposer has a good amount of experience with Blender so that's a plus.
