In a rapidly evolving tech landscape, organizations are increasingly being advised to adopt shared platforms—clean interfaces, automation of cloud-native tools, and a focus on empowering developers to deliver core business value. But what if your organization already has an established cloud infrastructure? How do you recognize the need for platform engineering, and where do you start?
In this talk, we’ll explore the journey of optimizing platform operations to enhance organizational efficiency and value delivery. Drawing from real-world experiences, we'll analyze the challenges faced when teams manage their own platforms - from excessive setup times to the maintenance burden of managing numerous cloud resources. We will dive into practical solutions, including the adoption of a centralized, multi-tenant platform approach that can streamline operations, reduce overhead, and shift the focus back to delivering business value, rather than managing infrastructure.
Additionally, we will examine key technical insights on recognizing platform inefficiencies and transitioning to a platform engineering model. You’ll walk away with actionable takeaways on how to empower development teams, automate cloud-native tools, and deliver transformational solutions more efficiently.
Join me as we unpack the journey from managing infrastructure to enabling innovation!
Hi Team,
I would love the opportunity to present a lightning talk at FOSS, India. This talk will cover the journey of optimizing platform operations to enhance organizational efficiency, with a focus on why platform engineering is necessary and how it can benefit organizations and their teams.
I'm currently actively contributing to platform engineering in my organization, specifically with Backstage and Redhat Experience Platform. I’ll share my experiences on overcoming platform management challenges and transitioning to a centralized, multi-tenant platform model. Attendees will walk away with practical takeaways on recognizing inefficiencies, adopting platform engineering, and empowering development teams to deliver more value.
Looking forward to the possibility of contributing to the event.
Best regards,
Soumyadip
Would be a good lightning talk as part of some k8s focused series. Please link to some demo code or slides.
The primary feedback was a concern about the talk's alignment with the core spirit of a FOSS conference. The proposal focuses on high-level abstractions or commercial implementations within the Kubernetes ecosystem rather than on contributions to open-source projects. There was also a concern that you may not be a contributor to the projects you're discussing.
For future submissions, we recommend that you clearly and explicitly highlight your personal contribution to the open-source projects you are presenting on. The program committee places a high value on talks that showcase the speaker's direct involvement and impact within the FOSS community.
