The automotive industry is increasingly embracing Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) to drive innovation, enhance collaboration, and improve software quality. Mercedes-Benz (MB) has established a comprehensive FOSS Manifesto outlining company principles, employee guidelines, and adopted by many companies to foster a culture of openness and shared development. The Mercedes-Benz Research and Development India (MBRDI) has embarked on a journey to achieve OpenChain ISO/IEC 5230:2020 certification, demonstrating its commitment to FOSS compliance and best practices.

The FOSS compliance process at Mercedes-Benz is streamlined to ensure adherence to legal and regulatory standards while facilitating efficient software integration. Furthermore, Mercedes-Benz actively contributes to the FOSS community through memberships, sponsorships, and the MB FOSS Platform, which supports collaborative projects and initiatives
