Bharat OS: Building India’s OS Ecosystem

Review Pending

This interactive presentation is specially designed to make people aware of the software, specifically the OS, used in different departments of the Indian government, and how the OSS community can help in making India's own software ecosystem which is free from proprietary licenses from big tech.
It will make people aware about the existing projects such as Bharat OS and BharOS, and why they haven't taken over our country's software infrastructure yet.

Attendees will gain insight into:

- What software does the Indian government use?

- Why do we need our own operating system?

- Existing initiatives that government has taken to break free from big tech.

- How can we make our own open source operating system

- Challenges and potential setbacks.

Not Sure
  • This will be a very appealing talk for many at the conference. There are many who want to make a difference and many who are passionate about Linux.

  • Please emphasis some invitation for potential contributors to improve the situation

  • We want to promote engagement and collaboration between the Indian gov and the FOSS community. Any obstacle-free routes to improving the situation would be very welcome, any "quick wins". Something like "we really need someone to fix X". And home that someone just posts that solution on github in a few weeks. Much easier to solve problems and opensource it than to wait for some project to start and come out of the government.

  • Given that do feel free to highlight any initiative and projects that touch the Linux world out of the Indian government.

Would've been interesting but unfortunately the speaker does not seem to be affiliated with the project.

Same reason as another reviewer, this seems to be just an overview from a third person perspective.
