Revitalising the Bengaluru FOSS United Community

Approved

Session Description

IndiaFOSS 2025 is expected to witness strong participation from the Bengaluru community, making it the perfect moment to reflect on how our local FOSS United chapter can grow stronger. This Birds of a Feather (BoF) session is designed to bring together students, professionals, and community members to openly discuss challenges and solutions for revitalising the Bengaluru FOSS community.

A recurring challenge is that while our meetups attract new faces each month (showing great organic discovery), the number of repeat participants remains relatively low. This points to opportunities to improve how we engage and retain members. In addition, we need more volunteers to help run the local chapter and community-driven initiatives—whether it’s organising meetups, mentoring new contributors, or starting grassroots projects.

The primary goal of this BoF is to collaboratively answer the following questions: How do we attract, onboard, and empower more volunteers to take ownership within the FOSS United community? Participants will be encouraged to share their perspectives, propose practical solutions, and brainstorm new ideas to make the chapter more vibrant and sustainable.

The format will be a round-table discussion, with at least 60% of the time devoted to solution-oriented dialogue. Whether you’re a student exploring open source for the first time or a professional keen to give back, your voice and ideas are welcome here. This session is for anyone who wants to shape the future of Bengaluru’s FOSS community.
