Looking to optimize your software's energy footprint? The KEcoLab project addresses this by offering a streamlined solution to remotely measure energy consumed by your software using a CI/CD pipeline. It integrates the OSCAR tool (oscar.umwelt-campus.de/) and provides developers with a detailed report to make informed decisions to improve code efficiency and obtain software eco certification with the Blue Angel (www.blauer-engel.de/en). Further details about measuring the energy consumption of software and goals of kde eco can be found in the kde eco handbook (eco.kde.org/handbook)
The talk will cover the following:-
1) Why Sustainability in Software?
2) KDE Eco initiative
3) Blauer Angel Criteria and why its important
4) Where KEcoLab fits in
5) Brief Introduction of recently Launched Endof10 campaign (endof10.org)
The talk seems more like an awareness thing?
The takeaways of this talk are unclear. Anybody who wants to "optimize" first needs to know a ballpark improvement that is possible. I'd expect a talk proposal that begins saying "software's energy footprint" to have some detail about what improvements to expect.
It's also not clear how the EndOf10 campaign is related to this - and how it ties to the rest of the talk.
I like the premise of the proposal. It has FOSS relevance more from ethics PoV than the practicality that is most often discussed. Having said that, I'd prefer if this is a lightning talk so that it remains crisp, as audience would be more interested in development related talks.
Thank you for submitting your proposal for IndiaFOSS 2025. Your submission was well-received and progressed to our final review stages.
Unfortunately, due to the high volume of excellent proposals this year, we were unable to select your talk for the final program. We appreciate the effort you put into your submission and encourage you to apply again for future events.
