Trusted Platform Module For Noobs

Rejected

Session Description

With windows 11 mandating the TPM 2.0 (trusted platform module) as a requirement for bitlocker, the adoption of the TPM 2.0 in modern personal computers has grown exponentially. Despite this the use of the tpm has not spread to the FOSS software space.

In this workshop, I intend to shine more light on the features and superpowers that the tpm provides and what it can bring to personal open source projects.

Key Takeaways

  • Demystify the Trusted Platform Module and the tools to interface with it.

  • Play around with TPM features like secret key storage, measured boot, and remote attestation.

  • Learn how to use the TPM's features in your own FOSS projects.

  • Learn basic cryptography as a bonus.

Not Sure

This is a very niche but important topic from encryption point of view and lot of people dont know much about it.

This could work if it was less beginner and maybe not a full workshop. I can't imagine needing more that 25 minutes to explain and use TPM

Not Sure

This is an niche, arcane yet interesting area that covers hardware enabled security, which has many applications.

The takeaways sound enticing enough. However, I'd recommend that the workshop proposal to be updated with more detail such as prerequisites, and a potential workshop outline.

A potential point of concern is that the author hasn't shared any references that demonstrate their working knowledge or experience in this area. This must be checked in subsequent reviews.

Including this workshop would add some much needed variety to the workshops as well.

This proposal is better suited for a talk and not a full workshop. For future submissions, we recommend that you provide a more detailed and structured outline for the workshop, including prerequisites for attendees. Additionally, you should include links to personal projects or other references that showcase your expertise in the field. This will help the program committee better assess the depth and value of your proposal.
