Modern data teams want to analyze huge amounts of data quickly, without being locked into expensive or complicated systems. That’s where Presto and Apache Iceberg come in, two open-source tools that are changing how we work with big data.
In this talk, I’ll introduce what Presto and Iceberg are, how they work together, and why they’re a great match for building fast, flexible, and open data platforms. We’ll cover the basics of what makes Iceberg special, like the ability to track changes to data over time, handle evolving schemas, and avoid common performance issues. Then we’ll see how Presto makes it easy to run fast SQL queries on Iceberg tables, even at a large scale.
Understand the Basics: Learn what Presto and Apache Iceberg are, and how they fit into the modern data stack.
Why Open Table Formats Matter: Discover how Iceberg brings features like time travel, schema changes, and atomic operations to data lakes, without locking you into proprietary systems.
Power of the Combo: See how Presto can query Iceberg tables efficiently using standard SQL, enabling fast and flexible analytics on large datasets.
Real-World Use Cases & Tips: Gain practical insights from real deployments, including performance tuning and avoiding common pitfalls.
Better suited for Data devroom.
I agree with other Reviewer that it may be suited for Data devroom as its very tool specific.
For project intro/demo talks, we expect the proposer to be a contributor/maintainer of the project or to have hands-on experience implementing or using the project extensively within an organization. From this proposal, I don’t see evidence of either.
