This workshop covers guidelines and recommended practices to draft a friendly space policy (FSP) or a code of conduct (CoC) for creating a safe and friendly environment for any FOSS
event. It covers these topics:
-- Myth-busting about FSP/ CoC and other Trust and Safety policies
-- Why is an FSP/ CoC required in the first place?
-- What are some FOSS projects, communities and events that have robust CoCs?
-- What should an FSP/ CoC contain?
-- Policy for photography, videography, reportage and external contractors
-- Resistance to the enforcement of a CoC
-- Systems of checks and balances (drafting, review etc).
Note that this session is an in-depth workshop largely about drafting the CoC and to an extent about its implementation. It does not cover topics such as incident response, formation of the trust and safety or incident response team/ complaints committee, etc.
Participants are strongly requested to read the reference material provided with this proposal before attending the workshop.
After attending this workshop, participants will be able to gauge the needs and nature of the community or event participants and formulate a code of conduct or friendly space policy for their event.
The talk focuses more on the human/social aspects for any event. This could be true irrespective of the nature of the event. It would have been better if the focus was more towards FOSS or any allied technologies. Not relevant to be hosted as a dedicated workshop.
This isn't specific to FOSS. This would have very little relevance to the expected target audience.
