Can You Run a Space Mission on Open Source? (YESS)

Proposal status is Review Pending
Session Description

People think rocket science is hard, In this talk we will discuss about how we can make it a little more understandable, and also play with rockets.
this talk will be a demonstration of many open source space related projects, which encapsulates the entire space mission pipeline from mission planning using basilisk and sgp4 to making our own rockets using rocket equation and also launch the rocket with a custom launch simulation. We will see how a satellites functions after reaching space and what to do when things go south (they will).
We will also learn how to communicate with satellites with minimal hardware and much much more.

Key Takeaways
  • I hope the attendees will leave with a positive attitude towards rocketry and space.

  • We will launch ROCKETSSSSSSSS (digital)

  • I will also share various opportunities in this field (Especially Research and Development) with others.

  • Main key takeaway from this talk will be that rockets are cool, and people who understand them are cooler.
