Ubuntu: A Young Developer's Launchpad

Rejected

Session Description

The importance of Linux for young developers and first time users.

The talk will focus on the importance of exposing younger school going users to linux for safety and transparency.

Pandemic caused schoolgoers to use laptops for online classes, which raised safety concerns. It will also help young developers get used to the environment of linux which is used in more widespread as a development platform than other OSes.

Key points of the talk:

Safety and Privacy for young users: Linux offers a more secure environment with fewer vulnerabilities and a trusted software ecosystem.

Skill Development: The CLI-first approach helps young developers learn essential skills like scripting, automation, and debugging early on.

Future-Ready: Familiarity with Linux gives developers an edge in professional settings where Linux is dominant.

Promoting School Level usage: We should promote the use of linux in schools through active programs

I will be ok to present a lightening talk, but I can expand these to a full talk with examples and a proposed school plan

Not Sure
Talk is okay for school students, but would be too basic for devs.

Not Sure
Unsure, leaning towards Approve. This feels like a policy talk e.g. enabling school students using linux/ubuntu and the proposal seems to be geared towards a student/school audience but in my personal opinion it doesn't gel well with the usual monthly event audience. There is still merit in having a lightning talk on the topic though.
