AI Memory Arrived. User Ownership Did Not. Fixing That with MCP and MemPalace.

Proposal status is Review Pending
Session Description

AI systems can remember and act, but the infrastructure enabling this is still fragmented and tied to proprietary, vendor-controlled systems. MCP introduces an open standard for agent-to-tool communication, while MemPalace replaces cloud-based memory with a fully local layer that stores context exactly as it happens. Together, they form a drop-in local stack for AI workflows that are persistent, interoperable, and fully user controlled.

Key Takeaways
  • Cloud AI memory is vendor-controlled

  • MCP is an open standard that lets AI agents talk to any local tool or system

  • MemPalace is a lightweight, community-driven, local memory layer that replaces Mem0 and Zep

  • Both tools work together and can be set up on any machine in minutes

  • Together they reclaim ownership, control and transparency with a local-first open-source stack
