Building an OS in 20 minutes (and playing ping-pong on it)

Proposal status is Review Pending
Session Description

How little do we actually need to build something we can call an operating system?

In this talk, we'll build a tiny OS from scratch in C and boot it in QEMU. Instead of stopping at the usual "hello world," we'll get graphics and keyboard input working and use them to build a playable game of Pong.

Along the way, we'll see what happens when a computer boots, how our code runs without another operating system underneath it, and how we can directly interact with the machine -no drivers, no abstractions, just us and the hardware.

The goal isn't to build Linux in 20 minutes. It's to build the smallest possible thing that boots, draws pixels, takes input, and lets us play Pong.

No prior OS development experience needed, just basic familiarity with C is enough to follow along.
