Getting started with GUI, Physics, and Music Generation using QT and C++

Proposal status is Rejected
Session Description

Finding projects with a well-maintained codebase can be really hard for students. Many people are unable to make meaningful contributions as they are unfamiliar with the codebase and may sometimes feel intimidated while interacting with developers across large Slack or Matrix channels.
The session shares how I, personally, as a new developer, found my way across one of my favorite projects, Mankala Engine, and started contributing in the Season of KDE 2026. I plan to share my work from the Season of KDE, which included updating the GUI using C++ and QML, and also implementing elements like sounds and physics using QT. How developers can make contributions using Kirigami and other QT modules of KDE. Most contributions are not limited only to code and can also be digital artworks and software translations. I shall share the artworks I created for Mankala Engine using Krita and how I translated text-based strings in Tamil and Hindi using KDE’s Lokalize software.

Key Takeaways
  • Updating GUI designs using Kirigami, QML, and C++.

  • Generating music with code using QT and creating 3D shapes using QT physics.

  • Translating any software using Lokalize.

  • Getting started to make digital art for your software using Krita.
