Fedipact: a retrospective on its impact on the fediverse

In 2023 meta announced project 92 Barcelon aka threads a twitter alternative that would allow anyone with a Instagram account to interact with software that uses the activitypub protocol(the fediverse).

Spearheaded by vantablack, fedipact was started as a alliance of instances against allowing meta to join the fediverse due to culture fit and moderation concerns. The end result was majority of the fediverse blocking meta.

This talk will be looking at the long term impact fedipact had on the wider culture, how it possibly fended off a 51% attack and the future of fedipact
