Beyond Code: How blogging and good documentation strengthens OSS projects?

Proposal status is Withdrawn
Session Description

Opensource is not just about writing code. It's also about making that code understandable, usable and approachable for others. Often, we focus heavily on code contributions, but one of the biggest gaps in many projects is clear and accessible documentation.

In this talk, I'll share my personal journey of getting started with technical blogging - how I began documenting my learning in Cloudnative and DevOps and how that simple habit slowly turned into something meaningful. From writing my first blog post to crossing 1000+ reads, I realised that documentation is not just helpful to others but also a powerful learning tool for ourselves.

Through this session, I'll talk upon how blogging helped me :

  • Break down complex cloudnative and OSS terminologies into simple explanations.

  • Connect with like-minded people in the tech community

  • Gain confidence in sharing knowledge publicly

I will also focus on how beginners can take their first step into FOSS through documentation. This includes simple and practical ways to contribute, such as improving README files, writing beginner-friendly guides, and sharing learning experiences.

Additionally, I'll touch on opportunities like Google Season of Docs and how initiatives like this highlight the importance of documentation in strengthening opensource ecosystems.

This talk is based on my real, ongoing experience of learning through documentation and sharing that knowledge with the community. It aims to show that you don't need to be an expert to contribute - you just need to start.
