Deploying a static site on vercel is an easy way. But actually owning the infrastructure behind the hosting is a real world problem. The talk will include how I moved away from hosting on vercel, to hosting on AWS. And managing the continuous deployment using GitHub Actions. And used IaC tools for provisioning the infrastructure. How a single git push triggers the GitHub Actions pipeline and updated the actual site.
Example scenarios this talk addresses:
Learning Frontend, Backend, Infrastructbure setup and Deployment can be done independently. But seeing how they fit together can be difficult for beginners. I'll walk through how my portfolio infrastructure evolved from localhost to monolithic to Static files using CDN and serverless contact page. How the very first deployment was manual clicks and git pull in an EC2 instance, to how currently I can get the whole site setup again with terraform. And how new changes can be reflected on this site with GitHub Actions.
The talk would include:
My journey of how I moved my portfolio from localhost to vercel to AWS
What issues I faced while hosting over cloud
Some introductory concepts of cloud, like wha EC2 and S3 is. (AWS)
Introduction to infrastructure as code. (Mainly Terraform and Ansible)
Introduction to basic CI/CD using github actions
Possible cost surprises
Explanation for what happens after git push in the CI/CD
End the talk with the current status of my personal portfolio (With frontend on S3 using cloudfront and a lambda function for contact page)
