Open Data Infrastructure for Blockchain Governance Analysis

Proposal status is Review Pending
Session Description

Most blockchain governance research lives behind bespoke scripts, one-off dashboards, and analyst-specific workflows making findings hard to reproduce and even harder to build on. When we analyzed ENS DAO's governance, we took a different approach: we built the entire research stack in the open, so anyone can re-index the data, reproduce our analyses, or extend them with their own questions.

This talk walks through how we designed an open data infrastructure for blockchain governance analysis using a Medallion architecture (Bronze/Silver/Gold layers) with DuckDB. I'll share what we learned about making governance data queryable, the tradeoffs between raw chain data and curated analytical layers, and how open infrastructure changes the economics of governance research from months of re-work to hours of iteration.

The goal: make it as easy to analyze a DAO's governance as it is to query a public dataset.

Key Takeaways
  • A reusable pattern (Medallion architecture + DuckDB) for turning on-chain governance data into analysis-ready datasets

  • Why reproducibility matters for governance research and what it costs when it's missing

  • How open research infrastructure lowers the barrier for Blockchain Projects to understand their own governance
