FOSS ecosystems: Code and Community

Proposal Details
Talk Description

Will share my experience on FOSS ecosystems over the years. Why "code" is the enabler of the community and the community depends on creators to survive. Code can exist without community, but community cannot exist without code. Will talk about how "code creates value" by doing work, and the goal of the FOSS community is really to support creators and their code. Sadly too often "value extractors" take centre stage from the "value creators" and use the credibility of creators to push their own agendas. Probably, will also talk about why public policy is a red herring for FOSS communities and FOSS should be used for its fitness to the purpose, not its ideological underpinning.
